Mountain Adieu

Well, as Porky Pig (right?) of Loony Tunes would say, that’s all folks. Iris 08 is over. And in a short while, we’ll be packing our bags here on this blog and moving on to something less torturous like practicing sleeping naked on a bed of nails, face down on a faraway mountain. Everyone reading this is free (or should i say is under compulsion) to write in a blog about how you liked/disliked Iris and how we can improve it, what events you thought were innovative and had potential, what events sucked (do be kind). i’d really like to know how many people actually read this blog. oh well…send in your blog articles with the subject line ‘iris blog’ to iris08.sfit@gmail.com. It’s also ok if you send in comments on this blog telling us in 2-3 lines how you liked IRIS 08. i know technology’s hard to figure out, but look around, figure it out, everyone should know to send in comments.

Its real easy to get in touch with us, just click  on ‘IRIS08′  in the menu and  then type in your comments.  Can it get any more simple…?

What the eff…?!

19th Feb. Message1:Limited passes for Reveler’s nite. Collect your passes immediately. 20th Feb. Msg2: Last day for registering for prom. call so-so immediately. VERY few seats left. 20th Feb Night. Msg3: You can still register for the prom. you can even get people from outside. Please hurry. 21st Feb. Msg4: Uncles, aunties, granma/pa, your pet dog/goldfish all allowed. Just come for the prom yaar.

So there you have it, in a few lines, the measure of success of Reveller’s Nite. My bleeding heart goes out to Harshali, Rohan (especially, worked SO hard), Mayank and everyone else who made the Prom possible. It deserved much more than what it got yaar. so what i said about it being love season and stuff…another one of my misjudgements? ah well…, but i can say for sure that all that WERE there had a GREAT time. in a small-ish way i’m glad there weren’t many because then it would’ve been a bump and grind session rather than any ball dancing of sorts. The food was just fantastic. Those who thought of going and didn’t, i swear, y’all did miss something. The creamy cake, the Paneer something sandwich…to die for i tell you…but it’s no use crying over spilt milk products. i’m glad there weren’t many or i wouldn’t have had so much to eat. but it really takes away the success part of it. of course it was a super success. not in quantity but in quality. or so they say. so one thumb to all For it, one finger to those who weren’t. hehe.

Anyway, at the time of posting this, Iris is already over. by tomorrow, if possible, you’ll have approx two posts telling you how it was. this is for the benefit of the people reading this blog who like all others that don’t, were not present at the event. one finger to you too. hehe.

And now, for some breaking good news. our blog has a female of the homosapiens species visiting and (hold your breath) READING our blog. yes, i know it’s hard to believe, even i thought it was a prank of sorts…i mean, we’ve had parrots/pigeons/monkeys visit this site by accident but to be visited by a girl…! Kent! this calls for celebration…! for one whole week, shall we not update this blog and keep it’s readers sane? i mean, we must show gratitude…eh? Ah well, you made our day Elita…woohoo!

Ok, now we sleep.

Paisa phek tamasha dekh!!!

Retro Blog: here we have a blog entry that never made it to the site (because of lack of technical knowledge or something else, we can’t say) . But it’s good to know that there are bloggers other than Kent and me.

Here’s Siddhant’s attempt. Sid mate, you’re good. I’m sure people won’t laugh at you reading this. If they do, well, what’s new i ask?

SID:I have now become well versed with every “paisa” song that is played ….ma phavourites are mujhe mil jo jaye thoda paisa thoda paisa aisa waisa magar kaise and paisa phek tamasha dekh…. but ma phavouritetest is paisa phek coz the amount every band is askin for ……VAYU’s ravi iyer says 75000 is what we have been getting and we expect ……..ZERO is askin for 80000 …..but they not free……PDV is not free that day ……we thought we call a little less famous bands like scribe even they not free that day…..Atharva’s planning to keep their gig on the 22nd i don know where they get the money …..they already have signed two bands…. and here in SFIT all we guys have done is asked a dozen bands and signed none ……..all i keep doin is PAISA PHEK TAMASHA DEKH ……everybody everyday comes in with great ideas …..isko bula usko bula ….. whenever i m callin any band sunny’s right behind ma back “tera baap dega itna paisa” ….. tanvi has big dreams maine THEMCLONES suna hain bula dena usko…..Vernon tells me why not parikrama …..cyril saxena as i call him wants “black” to play for free…. leave the bands ……lets talk about the SFI-tee….. we came on saturday half of the tee was done ……..then on sunday finally after a week’s time nikhil and ryan were finally ready with the tee design …….none of them in the design team …..”Everybody will do the work given to them. This IRIS we have to delegate work properly”-MR.SUNNY UPADHYAY ….. but in the end the person incharge for marketing ends up doing design …….its okay everythinz fair in love and IRIS……Mr.KAMATH got his first permission finally …… we have a lot of FE z comin up feels great to have all the support from the students ……we have FEz doin tele marketing ……. HONEY GET SOME MONEY.

Good work Sid. Nervousness seems to induce the best in you. And for all 2 of you reading this, the scene is pretty much the same. Money makes the world go round and believe us, our world isn’t going anywhere…

Help!

The few ex-jailbirds in our college who’ve committed the odd murders will tell you how it feels to count down your last days till the moment you walk up to the gallows (how they got out, don’t ask. that’s a different post). the feeling i er, feel, these days is not unlike that er…feeling (symptoms of writer’s block beginning to show). Doomsday is nearing really and every minute that passes adds another chore to the to-do list. of course, i’m good at addition and bad at subtraction so my to-do list is now more like a was-supposed-to-do list. i can’t help but feel that death is not an uncertainty on 22nd or 23rd or 24th. and i’m not talking about our rock show genre when i say that.

In many ways i feel like the death row convict, patiently biding my time. but in many ways i am unlike him/her. for example, which death row convict that you know gets to play badminton for most of the day? or for that matter TT…? why, i can even answer natures call at will. i get to read my favourite novel even when assigned a task. i have this wonderful quote that goes “Procrastination is like (unmentionable). it’s fun, but in the end you’re just screwing yourself.” So true. that to-do list is gonna come crashing down anyday now and injure me. We’re all in the same soup. soupermen, if you will. i can’t help but feel like something’s gonna go wrong. i mean, it always does but nothing so big that it can’t be covered up. this time it’s gonna be bigger than ever. the blunder. damn i’m so pessimistic. no. we will make it. positivity goes a long way. i wish there were actually people reading this. we’re in need of help like never before yaar. it’s gonna take a miracle (or an earthquake) to make Iris absolutely rock. the miracle is called hardwork and teamwork and has been rarely sighted in activities such as Dax bashing and throwball sledging.

On a happier note, love is in the air. At this time of the year, it always is. i don’t know how, but the coupling effect (if i may call it that) is strongest at this time of the year. this particular observation also gives me an opportunity to look at the last two weeks. there was traditional day. Vineha, among many, looked great in her Marathi do (i could’ve said nav-vari or something technical, but in fashion, i’m hardly the authority to consult). there’s no reason why i should’ve singled her out, but being first lady of college, in a way, i thought it proper to her some footage here. Onkar looked smashing too. Can’t remember what he was wearing, but i’m sure it must’ve been good. Seema was, quote: ‘pissed with the Iris committee for making Sid work on this day too’. you only have our sympathies Seema. But stats show that Sid does 40.37% of the work around here. And if it’s any consolation, you looked great to.

Next, mismatch day. A day that will go down in the history of SFIT as probably the blackest day ever, what with the histrionics of the students, so far as dressing goes, convincing college authorities that we should be wearing uniforms. that’s hardly surprising when CRs go for a student-teacher meeting in say, chaddis, banyans, batman costumes and other such perfectly abnormal informal attire. oh but it was fun, like with every other anti-authoritarian activity. cross dressing, fancy dressing, un-dressing you name it, we had it.

Rose day. Record cards sold i heard. it didn’t spread the festive spirit so much. or i certainly didn’t notice that it did. well, i still don’t know who the rose king/queen are. (Melwin: ‘Vineha and Dominic’). Melwin knows all. Anyway, oh right. i wasn’t here to witness the festivities in college for long that day. i should be taking more interest as Head of Administration. i don’t want the Iris Committee taking my case in the mosh pit during the Rock Show.

My future looks as bleak as a Tusshar Kapoor movie right now. i don’t want to say that about Iris right now because i do want to be positive. it’s really discouraging though, to have to pull people, force them to work. Andar se nahi aata hai…as Sid puts it. In 5 days, the big dream will be over. Relief will be but a natural feeling but satisfaction, i can’t say. i don’t know when any one in the world has needed so much help, but if someone’s listening: MAYDAY! S.O.S! HELP!

Woohoo! A Week to IRIS08…

C’mon yaar, be a sport

Walk up to the 6th floor, station yourself outside 611, and you might be able to see a sight seen only in Olympic Stadia and Municipal playgrounds. And recreation clubs. And society clubhouses. Ok, actually many places. but not in many colleges. or so i presume. you get to see 6 sports being played at once. TT, carrom, badminton, volleyball, throwball, football, cricket. Fine, i’m bad at counting. but you get the point don’t you? What people don’t realise is that one of the main reasons you get to play all this with shining new bats, perfectly round new balls, amazingly finished rackets(or racquets, as you please) is beacause of IRIS. and yet people fail to give it the respect it deserves.

It’s a classic case of lack of gratitude i tell you. not unlike our behaviour towards our beloved motherland. we feed on it riches, not just the metaphorical kind, but also on the actual riches that rich people unwillingly give away as taxes which subsidise our LPG, fuel, transport etc. and when the time comes to give something back, we are unwillingness personified.

Like i just asked this FE girl (oh wouldn’t i love to know her name) to attend the orientation seminar and she flatly refused! she wanted to play a game of carrom! i mean, what! we put the food, or in this case, the strikers and carrom pieces on your table, and you refuse to do as we say?! thoroughly unbecoming of the very concept of subtle slavery. very annoying yaar…

But on a brighter note, if there is such a thing, we made some progress. i say that because i must. we finalised the rock show line up. amidst much fanfare, and of course airfare (cuz of the outstation bands), we decided on a line up of: Brute Force, Junkyard Groove, Vayu. And of course there’ll be an opening act in true big rock fest fashion. Plus we have a poster ready and in a day or two, we’ll have the publicity teams going to colleges, hanging out there, coming back and asking for conveyance and all that sort of rot. The money’s still only trickling down, if it is at all coming in, no flood or for that matter, no steady flow even. But oh well, there’s only so much that a core committee of 40 people but exactly 5 functioning members can do. The DJ’s not finalised yet though. We’re *ahem* ‘in talks’. DJ Bundya, the hippest DJ in all of Dahisar (as Big Guy once put it), wasn’t *ahem* available. I’m sure it the thought of playing at only the hugest event in all of Mumbai gave him the jitters. Or not. Whatever. Also Flevin, our favourite designer guy, isn’t to be seen much these days. Besides motherly problems, his other-ly problems include what’s being made out to the mother of all robotics fest in some college at some place. Apparently, the project is so top secret that even IB RAW haven’t a clue about it in spite of recruiting top agents to find out. they seem to work under some Scrooge McDuck look alike who i’m sure even the KGB and Mossad are afraid of. Because you don’t see secret service agents wearing I cards do you? The t-shirt’s out but we hardly have buyers. What after these Nike-Adidas-Reebok sales, people seem to have stuffed not just their wardrobes, but their shoe-racks, refrigerators and even toilets with t shirts. Maybe we’ll need to put a *upto 100% off* sale if no one buys them…but we’ll be optimistic and say that…well, at least 5 will buy them. No no, haha, i’m kidding, our t-shirts have almost sold out…few left…book them soon…(‘psst, now will you point the gun away please?’).

Our biggest concern remains event heads. we have so many events, apparently the number of events in college exceeds the number of people in college. we’re thinking of keeping a sale on events now. ek ke saath ek free or something. and of course, our performing arts (PA) team suffered a huge setback due to some avoidable circumstances. they’re down to 2 from 3 temporarily. now the number of PA heads is approximately equal to the number of PA events…The charts were finally put up, by the way. but we’ve realised that unless we speak to people personally (read: threaten them at rusted-knifepoint), we’ll never be able to get the message across. no one looks at the notice boards in college. it’s like a teacher teaching maths. no one pays attention. Notice Board. Notice is a verb. not a noun. Please, NOTICE.

In other news, i think i’m starting to get some recognition. a couple of people waved at me, i think. or perhaps they were just adjusting their vest straps. and i thought someone smiled at me. but then i was told he gets facial muscular spasms often. Tarun Prabhu and Rohan Madtha, my two greatest idols in college commented here on the blog. It was absolutely amazing! if y’all are reading this too, i’m in awe, guys! y’all are super cool.

This just in, all the money we made was lost in the stock market. Going going gone. The markets dropped faster than Tusshar Kappor’s acting fees. We thought doubling the money in the stock markets would be a great idea, but it just turned out to be, well, Bull. We Bear-ly have anything left now. Damn! no yaar, i’m just kidding. we actually lost it in mutual funds. Damn! they said something about being subject to market risks. but we never paid attention. But y’all please pay attention. please support us. we’re feeling helpless as the fest is growing closer. also the ghost-writer who wrote this blog under my name quit the job. Damn the guy. any differences you find in the quality of blogs, blame that son of a lady dog for giving you false expectations…woohoo! i just hit the 1000 word mark. more than an indiacation that i should stop. but the SHOW, must go on. asking you in earnest for all the support you can, all jokes apart. any help will be appreciated. we hope to see you up there soon. IRIS 08, here we come!
